Piece of Cheese Cottage

Along All Saints Road in Hastings, you can find the Piece of Cheese Cottage. The curious story goes that two brothers, who had built cottages on the land nearby, wagered that they couldn’t build another functional building in the awkward space remaining. The triangular building has been used for coffin storage, and as a watchmakers’, and has since been painted yellow to resemble a wedge of cheese. How curious!

Gotham Alley

At the back of 14 Claremont, and connected to Hastings Commons’ Observer Building, you can find ‘Gotham Alley’, a Batman-esque alleyway complete with impressive fire escape stairs and colourful street art and graffiti. The alley is regularly used for Vintage Markets!

The Amsterdam Shipwreck

~ during low tide at the Bulverhythe end of Hastings Beach, you can find the jutting wooden bones of a mysterious historical shipwreck - the remains of a 260-year-old Dutch East India Company cargo ship. Quite the sight!

Bedgebury the Pinetum and wider Forest

~ near Ticehurst is a beautiful ancient stretch of trees and bodies of water. It is home to the National Conifer Collection and is recognised as one of the most significant collections of conifers anywhere in the world, and is complete with running and cycling tracks for dedicated cyclists & families!
