natural picture frame

As Spring is approaching, why not have a go at creating this natural picture frame using the flowers that are blossoming around you!

The great part about this activity is you can get as creative as you want with it, using different flowers or leaves you find.

Creating time- 30 minutes

Supplies:

  • string

  • twigs

  • scissors

  • pencil or hole puncher (optional)

You will also need what you will use to design it - flowers, pine cones, long grass, weeds

Method:

First you are going to want to arrange your twigs in the shape you want your picture frame to be.

Once you have figured out your shape, tie some string around the middle of each side of twigs to keep them together.

Now we are going to attach the ends of your twigs together. To do this place a piece of string on the table and lay one of your sides on top, place the adjoining side above that and wrap the string around both crossing over and wrapping again to keep secure then tie with a knot.

Repeat with all sides until you have made the base for your frame.

Now thread some more string threw the string securing the top of the frame, this will be what you use to hang it up so make sure it is secure!

You can start decorating your picture frame now! Using your flowers and leaves you can slot them through the string or in between the twigs and use long grass/ reeds to keep them in place and to cover up the string.

There you have it! A natural picture frame which will be sure to start the Spring season the right way.

GET CURIOUS : Try out some different shapes for frames! You could try a diamond or a star!
