New Year: New Me? Stop Forcing Change & Get Curious Instead

“The Beginning is Always Today” Mary Shelley

Over the new year we are bombarded with ‘New Year, New Me’ messaging. We’re sold diets, gym memberships, supplements and courses.

Instead of trying to change everything about yourself immediately, why not reflect and realign yourself with your why, your how and your when? Use the opportunity of the milestone to look back at your year and remind yourself of everything you’ve achieved and are capable of. Write your way back to yourself… perhaps over a leftover mince pie and a cup of tea.

Here are some of our favourite writing prompts and resources to bring in the new year in a gentler and more winter-appropriate way:

We love these questions from the blog Intelligent Change:

  1. What can you leave behind to make space for something better in the new year?

  2. What is something you’ve been too afraid to do this year that you know would bring you closer to your dream life?

  3. What are your three strengths and how can you use them to add more value to your life and the lives of others?

  4. What makes you happy? How can you do it more often?

  5. What do you look forward to next year? Dream it and go for it.

For a breakdown of these questions, head to the blog here.

The Classic: YearCompass

If you’re after a self-containted booklet with prompts you can work through, the YearCompass is a free, printable workbook designed to help you reflect on the year just gone and think about the year ahead. It has a dedicated following for good reason, with prompts like “I will pamper myself with these three things regularly”, it promotes self-care reminders and encourages gratitude for all your accomplishments. Find it here.
