You’re doing your work breaks wrong. Try this instead

Instead of staring at the screen during a work break, pick one of these curious tasks to try. They’re designed to interrupt monotony of repetitive tasks and give your attention system a reset.

You’re working from home and have a short tea break, make the most of it by trying one of these things to reset your brain:

  1. Doodle your day. Take a piece of paper, start a timer for 3 minutes and just draw things that represent your day. It doesn’t have to be good. It can even just be abstract marks, a visual representation of your mental state.

  2. Become a desk expert. / Do an interpretive dance (alternative) Start a timer for 3 minutes, and do a brief talk, out loud, of what you have been working on or something you enjoy outside of your work, as if you’re doing a presentation to someone you don’t know. / the sillier the dance the better. Think about this as an opportunity to being silly & playful

  3. Narrate your break. Become a commentator or narrator of your own life. Talk through the process of making your coffee or tea, trying to pull in all the minute details. You may surprise yourself with how just talking through it can bring you into the present.
